Which campuses does Houston ISD's own map return for 3333 Allen Parkway?

Houston ISD draws an attendance zone around each of its campuses, which is the area whose addresses that campus serves, and it publishes those zones as map layers: one for elementary school, one for middle school and one for high school, each named for the 2026-2027 school year. All three were queried on 18 September 2026 at a single point, the point the Census Bureau's own geocoder returns for this building's street address, and each of the three came back with exactly one zone.

The elementary layer puts this address inside the zone of Wharton K-8 Dual Language, at 900 W Gray St, and records that zone as covering grades EE, PK, KG and 1 through 5. The middle school layer returns Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr, at 1101 Taft, for grades 6, 7 and 8. The high school layer returns Lamar High School, at 3325 Westheimer Rd, for grades 9 through 12. Those are the campus names, the addresses and the zoned grades as the district's own layers print them.

Beside the three the district publishes a fourth, its feeder pattern, which prints a whole chain as one string rather than a level at a time. Queried at the same point it returns Wharton K-8 ➔ Gregory-Lincoln PK-8 ➔ Lamar HS, in the short names the district uses for its own campuses. Four maps, one answer. The same record shows no early-childhood zone over this point, and the single early-childhood zone the district publishes covers a campus in south Houston.

Two of the three campuses teach the same grades as each other. The elementary layer records Wharton as a multilevel campus teaching EE, PK, KG and 1 through 8, and the middle school layer records Gregory-Lincoln the same way, so a reader looking at either school's grade range would reasonably expect it to carry a student from kindergarten to the end of eighth grade. This address is zoned to the first of them for EE through 5 and to the second for 6 through 8. What a campus teaches and what an address is zoned to it for are two separate fields inside one record.

Why does one of those three campuses sit on a district list of schools with no zoned students?

The elementary zone layer and the district's School Choice pages say different things about Wharton K-8 Dual Language, and both of them are Houston ISD's, read on the same day in September 2026. The layer gives the campus a polygon with this building inside it. The School Choice side files every campus carrying magnet programming under one of three types, and it lists Wharton Dual Language Academy, which is that side's name for the same school, under the first type, Separate and Unique School. The district defines that type this way.

Read the two together and the disagreement is plain. One Houston ISD map puts this address in Wharton's attendance zone for grades EE through 5. Another Houston ISD page says campuses of that type have no zoned students at all and that every student applies. Nothing on this page resolves that, because nothing on this page can: both statements belong to the district, and so does the answer. Put the question to Houston ISD in writing, naming the address and the school year, and until the reply arrives treat a seat at Wharton as unsettled rather than as something this address carries.

The other two campuses are filed under the other two types, and each type says something different about who applies for what. Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr is listed as a School Wide Program, which the district describes as a campus where all non-zoned students must apply and zoned students do not need to, because the whole school runs the programming. Lamar High is listed as a School Within a School, where zoned and non-zoned students alike must apply to reach the specialty programming, while a zoned student reaches the general education program without applying. So this one address meets all three of the district's magnet types, one at each level.

Where an application is needed, what it buys is a place in a process rather than a seat. The district's own eligibility page says that some programs require students to meet an entrance requirement, and that priority status gives eligible applications a higher ranking in the lottery process.

Who publishes the two figures in that table, and what date does each one carry?

The Texas Education Agency issues one overall A to F letter for each district and for each campus it rates. The agency's page on how the ratings are decided, read in September 2026, puts them on three domains in a single line: "Accountability ratings are based on three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps." The same page says the campus letter measures, for each individual school, what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade, and that it also shows how well a school prepares its students for what comes after high school.

GreatSchools publishes a figure of its own out of 10, on its own scale and by its own method, at the top of each campus profile it keeps. The three profiles behind the table were read on 18 September 2026 and each carried the line Last updated: May 29, 2026. Only that top figure was taken from them. The themed ratings, the review score, the enrollment and the student-group figures those pages also print were left where they are.

One of the three campuses carries three names, which is worth knowing before anybody calls anybody. The district's zone layer calls it Wharton K-8 Dual Language and numbers the campus 256. The state's own files carry it as WHARTON K-8 DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY under campus number 101912256, which is Houston ISD's district number with that same campus code on the end. And the profile headed Wharton Dual Language Academy is the same school again, filed under a number of its own. The state campus number is the safest one to quote when writing to the district or to the agency.

Are the state's 2026 letters final?

They are preliminary until December. The timeline the agency publishes for 2026 appeals, read on 18 September 2026, sets 12 August 2026 as the preliminary release and the day the appeals window opened, 5pm on 11 September 2026 as the deadline for an appeal, and 11 December 2026 as the release of the final ratings and the count of consecutive years of unacceptable performance, when, in the timeline's own words, "The outcomes of all appeals are reflected in the final ratings and year counts update."

One line on that page outlasts December. Under the same date the timeline adds that ratings and year counts "are subject to change due to the results of an audit, compliance review, or investigation". So a letter records what the agency published on one day. The timeline also says the public websites are updated when the final set is released, and the footer of that same document prints the agency's own public address, TXschools.gov, beside its own.

Has the U.S. Department of Education named any of these three campuses?

No, and the check is worth showing rather than asserting. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program publishes the list of every school it recognized between 1982 and 2019, then one list a year after that, and all six were read against the three campus names on 18 September 2026. The cumulative list carries no school named Wharton anywhere in the country and none named Gregory-Lincoln; the only Texas entries carrying the name Gregory are a high school in Portland and a Catholic school in Tyler, and its four Texas entries carrying the name Lamar are in El Paso, Austin, Irving and Corpus Christi. Its 2020 cohort, its 2021 cohort, its 2022 cohort and its 2023 cohort name none of the three either, and neither does the page of 2024 awardees, which is the last one the program has published.

What should you put to Houston ISD in writing before an offer?

Name the exact street address and the unit number, because one street address here covers 253 homes, and name the school year you are asking about. Ask for the zoned campus at all three levels rather than only the one you need first. Then ask the question this page cannot answer: whether a student at that address is zoned to Wharton K-8 Dual Language or has to apply to attend it.

Ask when the district last reviewed the answer, and whether a boundary change is under consideration for the year you named. These layers are published a school year at a time. The elementary layer behind this page was created on 19 February 2026 and last changed on 16 July 2026, the middle and high school layers carry the same two dates, and the district still serves earlier sets beside them, back to the 2023-2024 school year.
